New haircut! Which isn't precisely what I would have liked, but my hair was totally destroyed when I went in, so it looks way better anyway. :)
And my mask for the ball came in! I'm pleased with it, it wasn't too pricey, but it's handmade and real leather, and really comfy to wear. I think it'll look nice!

Yay! I feel so fancy! :P

It's been really frozen here for days, snowing on and off more than a week! It's a real shock compared to Georgia, since it's sticking and piling up. I think it might be finally melting now, but just in case, I've got rubber and spikey traction soles that can be attached to my shoes for the ice (Thank you so much Aunt Rebecca!) which help a lot.
I'm working on all the non-school stuff that needs to get done asap so that when the regular semester classes start Thursday, I'm as prepared as possible. Michael has exams until thursday, so he's stressing out big time. I did well on the two papers I've gotten back so far, so I feel like if I'm prepared enough and start the work earlier I could get out with a distinction (A) for the whole degree, which is my goal.
I haven't yet heard about my placement and my dissertation is in very early development, so I'm not even positive about the exact topic yet. But hopefully all that will happen soon. Same with my visa, I'm not entirely sure how to continue, but I'm trying to schedule meetings with international office, financial office, etc etc, to find out.
Not a lot going on, we're pretty boring people. :P Although! I'm getting my outfit ready for a ball in Feb (Masquerade Murder Mystery!). I'm getting really excited! It's at Lumley Castle in Durham, which is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous. I'll definitely be taking pictures! I just got the mask, so I'll show it off soon.

Today was my birthday! And it was great! It's so funny, all my birthday presents (and most of my christmas ones!) match! I clearly have two color pallets- black, grey and red with beige and white, and bright jewel tones (magenta, teal, etc). I love it! I feel almost fashionable!

Michael was really sweet and made us a nice french toast and bacon breakfast, and the flat watched Kung Fu Panda while I repaired some ripped shirts (I know, riveting!). We went out for an early dinner to a cute little local restaurant, and spent the rest of the evening at home, watching Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and The Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists. Got some stuff that needed doing, done, but mostly it was a relaxed day- and absolutely NO schoolwork! That was lovely!

Our dresser drawers have broken for the fourth time, personally I'm all for giving up and just asking the landlord if he can switch it with one of his unoccupied properies' dressers. He's come in to fix it 3 times, after I tried and hurt myself the first time.
But besides that delay, the room is almost done. I spent hours organizing all my school stuff, receipts, other paperwork, etc. Into boxes with notebooks or labelled folders. I know if I leave it any longer, this semester's papers will never ever get organized. shelves and storage is mostly organized, although I'm starting to wonder if we actually have ALL our clothes clean, if the drawers will just expode or something. I had no idea just what a VOLUME of laundry we accumulated while our old machine was dying.
I'll going to decorate whether it's clean or not, I wanted it really thoroughly cleaned before classes, but the laundry/dressers make really vacuuming or cleaning a bit of a challenge. But I should be able to post pictures of the room with my own decorations up by the end of next week! (Although maybe not thoroughly cleaned *sad face*.)

It's back to work tomorrow, but I'm not 100% sure of what I need to be doing. I'm doing research for my proposed dissertation topic, and trying to look up general reading for my upcoming courses. But, it feels oddly simple after all the papers and working non-stop, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts. :)

I'll post again soon! <3 Hugs!

I don't know if anyone is reading this, but did anyone send me a package via Hermes? I have a delivery slip here, for 2 packages, in my name, but it was while I was gone, and the number on the card isn't working, and the company charges per minute to call customer service, so I've written an email, but it would help if I knew what they were. I'm really sorry!
It'll get sorted out. Thank you very much! <3

I'm back in Newcastle now, thank goodness, and getting back to real life. Turned my paper in yesterday and basically collapsed flat the rest of the day. Pulled my first real totally-all-nighter since like freshman year, but it got done in the nick of time (some tech problems had us scrambling right up til 11:30 when I had to leave to get it in for the 12 deadline). I'm not super pleased with the paper, but I did my best, just had a lot of setbacks.

I have my dissertation proposal due the 10th, so a couple days left to figure out what to do, and write it up. I'm interested in looking at how the cultural tension between Catholics and Protestants is portrayed in Glasgow museums, but that would involve a lot of travel to and staying in Glasgow, to do research, and the very cheapest possible tickets would be like 60-70 pounds, plus staying in a cheap hotel for at least one night per trip, because the train schedule wouldn't really let me get a full day of work. I think it could be potentially interesting (although, really, I don't know if they DO portray that tension, they might totally overlook it, although I guess I could write about that too... I don't know). I'm having a debate with myself about if I want to try this or not.

What I put on my proposal is flexible, it's really just to get your professor assigned who will work with you on your dissertation, but I don't want to change it completely, our professors have made it clear we should have a good thought out idea. I liked the Glasgow idea, up until I looked at the train prices.

It's nice to be home, but just unpacking out bags, doing laundry, etc, makes the room even worse than when we left, and it never really got done. But, after my dissertation proposal's in, and before I have my first supervisor meeting, I have a couple days in which to clean and organize the room, catch up on sleep, do everything.

I will be making phone calls soon, I had some fraud on my skype account and had to shut it down, but I'll set it back up and top up my minutes soon.  But thank everyone for my christmas and birthday presents and cards! I had them waiting for me when I got home, it was wonderful! <3

Back again soon <3 Hugs!

Happy New Year!
Spent last night at Michael's Nan's house with his brother and his fiance. It was awesome! Watched Jool's Annual Hootenanny on TV, and I was thrilled that anyone in the world still uses the word "hootenanny"! Also it was a great concert. 6 days til my paper is due, and really only 4 working days. But, I've gotten most of the body written, and about half of what's written edited. I've done my tracking but I need to transfer it to the pretty professional looking ones Michael mocked up for me (after I finish labelling those). I've not yet chosen or rewritten the required panel, but I have a few ideas, and I know exactly how I will be improving it, so I just have to follow the guidelines I already have.
I'm still really nervous about it, but it'll be ok. Michael said he could help me with editing it and formatting and stuff, because I'm not really sure how to format it, since it's not really a paper, it's a case study, and so it doesn't really fit into a nice essay format.

Anyway, we're headed back for the 5th, which will give me one day at home to finish my paper, make sure it prints, etc etc. And enough time to deal with anything that doesn't work.

I'm sort of going stir crazy, just working on this stinking paper almost all the time, staying in the living room here, always, and working. But, it's necessary I guess. And as soon as my paper's in, I have 3 days to complete my dissertation proposal, which I don't even have time to think about right now. So I won't. :P

I still have no idea what to do for my birthday or what I want or anything. Michael keeps asking me, so he has some idea of what to plan, but my paper and dissertation proposal are looming over my entire mind, and all I want is them to be over.
But, he's always good with getting presents and stuff, and he knows we have price limits, so I can pretty much trust him to be awesome with presents.

Anyway, I should probably get back to work, just procrastinating here really, because I can't look at that paper for one more second. But back to work!

Hugs!
Love,
me <3
